Carlin - Sr. Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Senior Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer to join our Cortez operation.   The successful candidate will assist in developing and guiding projects to support short and long term mine plans.

Responsibilities:

• Support risk management and mitigation in open pit operations and deep dump development
• Strong understanding and experience with open pit blasting techniques and controls
• Hands-on experience with data collection and assessment of rock mass and rock defect strength properties
• Strong understanding of stiff soil properties, anisotropy and effects on slope design
• Working competence in Rocscience suite of surface stability software programs
• Understanding of 3-D geologic model inputs and development, and impacts on slope stability
• Experience with bench scale and inter-ramp scale slope design compliance
• Must be able to work in a team environment
• Clear and concise communication and liaison skills with various personnel levels
• Support risk management and mitigation in open pit operations and deep dump development

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering or related field required 
• 5 – 7 years hands-on geotechnical experience at an active open pit mine site preferred
• Demonstrated ability for developing and sustaining short term and long term projects preferred 
• Experience in geotechnical analysis for open pit mine life cycle preferred
• Supervisory experience of engineers and technicians preferred
