Tenaska, Inc. is looking to hire a Data Scientist I position in Irving, Texas. The position will actively participate in the development of energy resource optimization technologies. The essential job functions are as follows: Collect traditional and novel weather data series for machine learning model ingestion and provide weather data guidance to the team. Research, recommend, and implement weather feature-based approaches to forecast power market variables including energy and ancillary services prices. Evaluate and enhance the performance of existing forecast models to ensure they meet or exceed efficiency and accuracy benchmarks. Conduct in-depth research to support probabilistic time series forecasting with feature-based approaches and deep learning technologies, keeping abreast of the latest advancements in traditional and AI weather prediction models. Maintain a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of work, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of developed solutions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Position requires a Master of Science degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field and experience with, or academic exposure to, the following specific tools and environments:
- Working with large weather data sets from ECMWF, GFS or commercial weather forecasters.
- Understanding of sub-seasonal to seasonal atmospheric teleconnections to mid-latitude weather.
- Python as applied to data science production pipelines.
- Applying effective feature engineering and selection methods for transforming and reducing weather data features for machine learning.
- Working with databases of many kinds, from RDBMS to NoSQL and time series databases.
- Machine learning data preparation concepts (cross validation, folding, boosting, feature engineering) with clear understanding of time series related concerns.
- Developing and implementing machine learning models for supervised and unsupervised learning to solve weather or climate-related problems.
