JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for the proper performance and quality of a wide range of operations in an assembly department.  Set-up a variety of workstations and equipment, train and instruct employees, assist supervisor in maintaining the flow of work.  Additional duties may include the performance of any and all operations within the scope of all departmental zone responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Other duties may be assigned:

Work from schedules, formulas, verbal and written instructions to plan work in proper sequence and to instruct and assist operators to perform their work in the proper and prescribed manner.  Train/coach other employees in standard work practice.  Assign work to individual employees, follow-up to insure completion of assigned tasks and re-assign personnel as workload varies with changing conditions.

See that all necessary materials are on hand and equipment is in order.  May move stock and material.  The Assembly Zone Lead is expected to be able to perform any of the operations/duties in all departmental zones as needed.  Check various operations and assist as necessary in the solution of difficulties, ensure effective communication exists throughout the department and between supporting areas and internal customers.  Assist in the scheduling process.

Assist Supervisor in carrying out special or periodic assignments.  In the absence of the Supervisor, will be responsible for the operations of the department and will handle all routine matters as instructed by his/her Supervisor.

Maintain 5S standards.  Will assist in the identification and resolution of safety issues and will report safety awareness within the area.  Will support and maintain standard work.  Will identify and implement improvements.  Look for ways to reduce and eliminate waste and support countermeasure implementation.

Complete required paperwork such as quality charts, production charts, log books etc.

Coach and reinforce employees as needed.  Inform Supervisor of issues such as absences, quality or safety issues etc.

Leadership competencies required for the Assembly Zone Lead are teamwork, problem identification/solution, initiative, oral/written communication, coaching and manufacturing ability.

Responsible for both quality and quantity of work: Participate in team activities and problem solving sessions as required.  Communicate problems and/or solutions to appropriate team member.  Must follow processes and procedures as written.  Train, instruct and assist other operators in their duties as required to ensure a quality product and smooth flow.

Evaluate defective material and tooling, faulty operations, questionable conditions and potential work stoppages; advise and recommend alternatives to appropriate team member.  Ensure that work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe condition.   Follow prescribed safety regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May assume responsibility for the department’s operation in the Supervisor’s absence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must pass appropriate Assembly Zond Lead Test

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or (GED) General Education Degree (applies to anyone hired after 1997).
