All roles include separate, pre-employment training, available through the center.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

Tutors assist students in becoming more successful and independent learners. Peer tutors help to integrate effective learning and study strategies for their assigned students, while at the same time clarifying and/or reinforcing course content, assignments and material. Embedded tutors have a class assignment and work directly with the instructor and class members, in addition to serving as a CAVE tutor.

  • Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students.

  • Keep accurate records of each tutoring session using Accudemia software.

  • Successfully complete CRLA Level 1 Tutor Training requirements (provided).

  • Have thorough knowledge of college services, support, and resources.

Supplemental Instruction leaders facilitate regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions for targeted courses. The sessions allow students to review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations. Students learn how to integrate course content with reasoning and study skills.

  • Attend the targeted SI class, take notes, and participate in discussions.

  • Be available for a small number of drop-in tutoring hours and attain CRLA Level 1 status.

  • Conduct at least one full 50-minute weekly session for each of your assigned sections throughout the semester.

  • Plan SI sessions using a wide variety of interactive learning strategies (without re-teaching, lecturing or completing students’ assignments for them).

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be an undergraduate student with, at minimum, one semester of enrollment.

A grade of B+ or higher in any selected SI course.

Have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or above.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Be able to flexibly work 8-10 hours per week.

Be a model student who understands the importance and application of effective study skills and strategies.
