The Maintenance Coordinator / Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment across all facilities. This role combines custodial duties with hands-on maintenance support, including basic repairs, equipment assembly, and coordination of preventative maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is a dependable, proactive individual with strong handyman skills and the ability to troubleshoot facility-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance & Repairs
Perform general maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., lighting, fixtures, doors, plumbing, HVAC troubleshooting)
Replace light bulbs, ballasts, and basic electrical components
Support minor air conditioning and ventilation maintenance (filter changes, troubleshooting, vendor coordination)
Assemble furniture, equipment, and office fixtures
Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment to identify issues
Janitorial & Custodial Duties
Maintain cleanliness of offices, classrooms, restrooms, and common areas
Perform trash removal, floor care, and sanitation duties
Ensure compliance with health and safety standards
Coordination & Compliance
Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
Assist with fire and safety inspections (extinguishers, alarms, evacuation compliance)
Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records, and supply inventory
Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner
Preventative Maintenance
Support preventative maintenance schedules for building systems
Monitor facility conditions and recommend improvements
Other duties as assigned by management.
QualificationsQualifications
2–5 years of experience in maintenance, facilities, or janitorial work
Strong handyman skills (basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry)
Experience assembling furniture and equipment
Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and building operations
Familiarity with fire safety and inspection standards preferred
Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical tasks
Strong problem-solving and time management skills
Reliable, responsive, and able to work independently
Basic computer skills
Preferred Skills
OSHA safety awareness
Experience working in schools, campuses, or office environments
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and vendors

Physical requirements
The Maintenance Coordinator/Janitor role requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in support of campus operations. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout the workday and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform cleaning and maintenance duties. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally move heavier items with appropriate equipment or assistance. The employee must have sufficient manual dexterity to operate cleaning equipment, tools, and machinery, as well as the ability to grasp, handle, and manipulate objects effectively.
