Vir Biotechnology seeks a contract Senior Research Associate with experience in upstream or downstream monoclonal antibody manufacturing or process development. The Process Development team develops and implements processing methodologies across all modalities that can be easily transferred to cGMP Manufacturing teams and our CDMO partners. Reporting to a director your primary focus would be to support the preparation and execution of pilot scale batches.   Additional opportunities include supporting laboratory operations, calibrating equipment, performing lab scale experiments, and gaining experience in a process development laboratory.

This role is based in our San Francisco lab facility. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the preparation and execution of pilot scale production batches
  • Prepare pilot scale buffers and medias in support pilot lab production
  • Work with project leads to source and order raw materials for our pilot production lab and manage raw material inventory
  • Perform lab scale experiments to assess platform fit and to develop processes
  • Perform daily calibrations and preventative maintenance of lab equipment
  • Work with project leads to draft master batch records for pilot scale batches
  • Summarize lab scale study results, review batch production records, and draft production summary reports
  • Potential to gain process development experience
  • Provide oral project status updates to internal or external shareholders as needed
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety and Quality to ensure lab work is performed in safe and compliant manner

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's with 2+ years or Bachelor's with 4+ years of industrial experience in biological sciences, biochemistry, or biochemical/chemical engineering within a biopharmaceutical bioprocess research and development setting
  • Direct upstream or downstream monoclonal antibody process development, pilot production lab, or cGMP manufacturing experience
  • Candidates with the following experience will be given greater consideration:
    • Understanding of the fundamentals of upstream or downstream biopharmaceutical processes
    • Equipment calibration, laboratory operations, consumables management experience
    • Buffer or media preparation experience
    • Good documentation practices (GDP) experience and experience writing standard operating procedures, batch records, and technical reports

The expected salary range for this position is $93,000.00 to $122,500.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
