Description
Piedmont Pediatrics is looking for full-time and part-time Certified Medical Assistants to join our team as a Patient Care Coordinator. Ideal candidates will have previous experience administering medications and vaccines. This position works with both the clinical (direct patient care) team and our patient registration and scheduling team.
Our office cares for patients from birth through the college years, is an established user of electronic medical records (EMR) and strives to foster a collaborative and supportive team atmosphere. Our full time Patient Care Coordinators work 4 days a week, totalling 36-40 hours each week, with rotating weekends and one late night until 7pm. Our part-time Patient Care Coordinators work 3 days per week with rotating weekends and one late night until 7pm. The practice is open seven days a week, has two locations (Charlottesville & Crozet) and work schedules include weekdays, evenings and weekends (on a rotational basis). Daytime weekday schedule between 7:45am and 7:00pm. Daytime weekend schedules are Saturday: 8:00am - 2:00pm and Sunday: 12:30pm - 4:30pm. Hourly wage differential is paid for weekend work.
The position requires employees to work at both our Charlottesville and Crozet offices.

Requirements
Education and Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED required (Associate degree preferred)
- Formal medical training and Medical Assistant certification required
- 1 year experience in pediatrics preferred
- CPR certification
- Vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to starting work
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Experience administering injections and medications
- Competency in operating
medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. - Knowledge required to maintain a safe work environment.
- Skilled in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide patient care.
- Possess the ability to maintain quality control standards, react calmly and effectively in emergencies, interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures, communicate clearly, and work effectively with co-workers, while maintaining confidentiality of clinical information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet patients warmly and prepare them for the provider’s visit.
- Perform initial assessment of patients, measure vital signs (e.g. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, respirations, weight and height) and records information in patient’s chart.
- Participate in implementation and evaluation of patient care.
- Clear and effective communcation regarding patient flow to maintain appropriate scheduling and reduce wait times.
- Maintain and organize all instruments, drugs, equipment and supplies.
- Collect and process lab specimens and assist with procedures as directed by the provider.
- Prepare and administer vaccines and medications as directed by the provider.
- Perform calibrations and other quality control tests on laboratory equipment.
- Thoroughly document all results, medications and other patient care.
- Handle all emergency situations in collaboration with the providers and other members of the team.
- Share appropriate anticipatory guidance, screening tools, patient information sheets, lab forms, school forms, medication forms and other paperwork to patients.
- Promote a safe working environment in accordance with applicable laws and regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
- Perform all lab opening/closing duties if assigned.
- Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude.
- Attend team meetings, daily huddles, and any additional trainings as needed.
- Ensures established patient medical records are updated according to practice protocol including progress notes, immunization records, and other information are in place and computer templates are used.
