About the Role

In order for the global energy system to make the transition from a carbon-based grid, to a renewable energy grid, large scale energy storage must be introduced into the electricity system to balance intra-hour supply and demand. Energy storage is the enabler of high penetration variable renewable generation like solar and wind.
Plus Power is looking to hire a Associate General Counsel - Real Estate. The position will be a part of a growing Legal Department and work cross-functionally with the key parts of the organization including the Project Development and Project Finance Departments.
Responsibilities
- Reports to General Counsel/Deputy General Counsel
- All work directed by the Director of Real Estate
- Assists RE Team in the comprehensive de-risking of title and survey related issues relating to portfolio of energy storage projects in the areas of (a) title and survey review, (b) curing title/survey defects and (c) mineral rights
- Works with RE Team and Developers to select outside RE counsel to assist in complex de-risking activities for project development including, but not limited to (a) mitigating environmental issues, (b) permitting/zoning challenges that intersect with efforts of the Permitting Team, (c) access, and (d) third-party consents. Responsibilities include assisting in the management of outside counsel’s scope of work
- Supports Director of Real Estate in legal review and document drafting of complex language and provisions for Real Estate Transactional documents
- Supports RE Director and RE Associate on all activities associated with the closing of real estate transactions and the execution of lease agreements. Responsibilities include taking lead on negotiating and finalizing real estate closing documents, Title Insurance Pro Forma as well as endorsement coverage
- Supports RE Associate to obtain all internal legal approvals necessary for execution of real estate related documents
- Takes lead on behalf of RE Team to ensure that all real estate-related requirements are met for Project Financial Closings.
- Takes lead on all legal research to ensure that real estate transaction documents adhere to any applicable local, state, federal, or administrative requirements
Qualifications
- 7-10+ years experience in acquisition and development of real estate transactions in the commercial, industrial, or renewable energy industries
- Extensive experience in title research, title insurance, ALTA survey review, and mineral rights
- Experience in working with Finance Department and Lenders to complete Project Development Financial Closings
- Ideal candidate has experience in mitigating environmental risks that are common in land development
- Creative independent thinker who is willing to create a unique partnership with the RE Team
- Experience in renewable energy and / or energy storage preferred
