Laboratory Reception Job Description Summary
The Laboratory Reception is a dual functioning role, supporting both laboratory administrative tasks and reception duties. This position reports to the Medical Laboratory Manager.
Laboratory Reception Responsibilities
· Maintains a warm, welcoming, and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.
· Welcome each patient with a warm and friendly greeting.
· Provides excellent patient experience from time of check-in to check-out.
· Confirm accurate patient demographic information, patient registration, and insurance information.
· Answer telephone calls in a timely manner and assist with call center back log to avoid long wait times for patients.
· Schedules patients follow up laboratory appointments as needed.
· Assist patients with general questions and provide them with accurate information upon request.
· Accurately receive and deliver messages.
· Ensure that laboratory documents are scanned and uploaded to patient’s charts in a timely manner.
· Performs other administrative related duties as assigned or requested.
· Demonstrating a working knowledge and understanding of the lab billing process for in-house versus send out labs based on patient’s insurance policy and lab test ordered.
· Accurately enter lab orders into EHR as directed by the provider and scan to patient chart.
· Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with laboratory coordinators regarding day-to-day operations, including but not limited to ensuring correct collection and billing of in-house versus send out labs and updating on additions of or changes to MNWC lab protocols.
· Assist in monitoring the Lab User tasks in EHR to ensure all telephone encounters are completed in a timely manner.
· Contacting outside reference laboratories as needed to obtain or provide information regarding patient samples or add testing.
· Ability to prioritize & respond quickly to changing & fast-paced environment.

Requirements
Requirements
· High school diploma or GED
· 1 year of experience in a Medical Office setting a plus.
· Strong documentation skills.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Strong customer service skills.
· Punctuality and adherence to schedule is a must.
· Excellent problem solving and time management skills.
· Excellent telephone skills and etiquette.
· Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
· Work is performed in a medical office setting using standard medical equipment. The risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids is present.
