Position Title: Core faculty

Reports to: Program Director

Rank: Assistant Professor

The Physician Assistant Program at Tufts University School of Medicine is seeking a collaborative Core faculty member. Core faculty are instrumental in the day-to-day functioning of the Physician Assistant Program and the education of its students. The faculty work closely with the Program Director to balance the needs of the program. This position will also work with the Director of Didactic to ensure academic needs are met, as well as the Director of Clinical Education to ensure adequate clinical year support.

This is a non-tenured track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.

1.0 FTE salary range for Assistant Professor: $108,000 - $162,000

 

Faculty responsibilities include the following:

Teaching

  • Provide student instruction in active learning, classroom, and laboratory settings as assigned.
  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description, NCCPA blueprint, and ARC-PA standards.
  • Engage in best-standards while developing and evaluating program curriculum.
  • Maintain effective communication verbally, in writing, and electronically with students, faculty, the program director, clinical agencies, and health care professionals.
  • Prepare learning outcomes, instructional objectives, syllabi, lectures, and examinations for courses taught
  • Evaluate student performance for courses taught
  • Participate in the evaluation of students for skill assessment, IPE, Simulation, and summative assessments as well as additional competency testing events
  • Work effectively with students and faculty to resolve student issues and concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate records such as clinical/laboratory evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes, and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress.
  • Participate in interprofessional educational opportunities

Advising

  • Participate as an active advisor to assigned students during the first and second year

Service

  • Serve as a member of the curriculum committee participating in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum
  • Serve as a member of the admissions committee which includes participating in the admissions process including application review and interviews
  • Serve on additional committees as assigned by the program director

Accreditation Participation

  • Participate in the annual review and revision of the program mission statement, goals, and competencies.
  • Participate in the continuous assessment processes and efforts involving the maintenance of the program’s ARC-PA accreditation as delegated by the program director
  • Participate in program evaluation and assessment including program accreditation processes.

Additional essential responsibilities

  • Perform other essential duties and tasks, as assigned by the Program Director
  • Participation in faculty development workshops
  • Attend program, department, and university meetings as requested
  • Maintaining knowledge of educational best practices, policy changes, and program development through attendance at professional conferences and seminars at the local, state and national organizations

 

 

Qualifications

We seek a collegial individual who is a graduate of an accredited physician assistant program, NCCPA certified, and currently licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a physician assistant in Massachusetts.   They will possess at least a master’s degree as a physician assistant or in a related discipline. 

This individual will have at least 3 years of clinical experience as a physician assistant and a minimum of 2 years of physician assistant educational instruction experience.  They must have strong interpersonal abilities including written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving and critical decision-making abilities.
