Job Summary:
Plans, develops, and coordinates all phases of donor development and the solicitation of financial support for The Salvation Army programs, services, and raising funds for capital campaigns for the Corps; Serves as liaison to the Divisional Headquarters Resource Development and Planned Giving Departments. Plans, develops, and coordinates public relation programs with the media, private and public sector organizations and churches ensuring that The Salvation Army maintains a favorable and positive image in the communities and for both internal and external audiences. Serves as liaison to all media ensuring the desired message is communicated; photographs and writes articles covering Salvation Army events; strengthens communication with donors, prospective donors, corporations, volunteers, media personnel, civic club leadership and local government leadership.

Development Responsibilities: 60%
Plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors a systematic program of fundraising, involving individual donors, corporate donors, foundations, government grants, capital campaigns, special events, etc.
Plans, develops, and coordinates all phases of donor development and the solicitation of financial support for The Salvation Army programs, services, and raising funds for capital campaigns for the Corps.
Sets goals, monitors work and evaluates results to ensure organizational needs and objectives are met.
Prepares and maintains up-to-date donor records in an accurate and complete manner; ensures the confidentiality of the same as required.
Monitors, tracks, and participates in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of a database containing up-to-date donor records; prepares routine and special donor activity reports.
Prepares donor correspondence and mass mailings.
Serves as liaison to the Divisional Headquarters Resource Development and Planned Giving Departments.
Establishes and maintains donor relationships with a view to cultivation and upgrading.
Plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors all donor communication and direct mail programs of the corps working with the approved direct mail vendor.
Plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors all programs involved with receipting contributions, thank you letters, donor appreciation, and information (newsletters).
Coordinates and prepares for timely submission of all grant proposals, as well as subsequent reports required by grants awarded.
Serves as liaison with the Advisory Board, facilitating meetings, communication, and an increasing level of involvement.
Serves as liaison with the United Way and governmental and other agencies.
Develops and maintains the annual Development Calendar.
Plans, develops, and coordinates fund raising programs to increase revenue such as: special events, giving clubs, lapsed donor and acquisition of new donors.
Coordinates and monitors capital campaign activities and reporting; receives, receipts, and reports donations and remaining pledge balances.
Contacts individuals, businesses, corporations, and organizations (Civic such as Rotary, Lions, etc.) and solicits funds to support The Salvation Army programs.
Develops grant proposals and applies for financial assistance from public and private sectors.
Research prospective corporate and foundation funding sources.
Attends pre-submission grant orientation seminars.
Distributes formal correspondence, drafted by Commanding Officer or Grant Writer, to grant makers including letters of inquiry, formal grant proposals, cover letters, thank you letters, and progress and program evaluation reports.
Develops and coordinates planned giving programs with planned giving personnel at Divisional Headquarters.
Reads industry publications and maintains knowledge of changes, trends and happenings in the philanthropic and marketing sectors.
Attends and participates in assigned and approved conferences and workshop, regularly scheduled Development meetings and training sessions as assigned.
Prepares and maintains records of all phone calls, correspondence, visitation on a donor data sheet and a calendar of all contacts; receives and responds to donors and prospects mail.
Stays abreast of news, changing demographics and other relevant issues in order to evaluate an plan marketing and communication activities.
Works with the Public Relations/Fund Raising Committee of the Advisory Board.
