        SUMMARY:   

The Director of Nursing provides leadership to Dorsey Schools Practical Nurse, Patient Care Technician and Dialysis Patient Care Technician programs. This position serves as the administrator responsible for providing campus-wide leadership, supervision, guidance and direction for instructional programs, courses, services, faculty, and staff.

         ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Actively participates as a member of the leadership team and assists the Executive Director of Nursing in achieving priority institutional objectives identified in the Strategic Plan
  • Provides leadership and administrative oversight for faculty, staff, and programs in the areas of workforce and career education in the disciplines of Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Evaluates and ensures quality in all aspects of PN instruction and staff.
  • Engages faculty and staff participation in support of campus wide educational priorities. program development, program review, curriculum and articulation
  • Provides day-to-day oversight of the nursing culture to ensure a student-centered, learner-centered environment at all campuses; serves as spokesperson for issues pertaining to Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Assist to resolves student issues and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the completion of reports required for annual development, Faculty Development and Retention reporting, and any State of Michigan and accreditation reports.
  • Serves as a liaison between the campuses and Campus Support Center in all matters relating to campus and/or student concerns.
  • Support campuses with interviewing and training.
  • Facilitates and coordinates programs and services with other Dorsey staff/faculty as needed
  • Serves on various committees, advisory boards, and task forces and represents the school on local and state activities as needed
  • Performs related duties as assigned
  • Provide support to Patient Care Technician Clinical Instructors during each rotation including student counseling.
  • Assist with the management, hiring and training of all Patient Care Technician Clinical Instructors.
  • Assist with externship placement every module for PCT students
  • Assist with the development of new hospital and long-term care externship sites ensuring that Affiliation Agreements are developed, reviews, executed, and updated with each site where our externship students are placed

  • Must display exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as active listening; ability to communicate well with staff and students.
  • Must be able to effectively lead, motivate, and manage staff and teams.
  • Must be reliable with strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must be resourceful and able to problem solve; strong initiative and solid judgment required.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Must be proficient with basic office equipment, computers, and computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Master's degree required
  • Teaching experience required
