About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for graduate students from any discipline to gain a deeper knowledge of sustainability. Cross-listed in Global Studies, Architecture, and Commerce, this interdisciplinary course is the required foundation for both the Global Sustainability major (aka Global Studies, Environments + Sustainability) and the Global Sustainability minor. Professors from environmental science, philosophy, medicine, architecture, engineering, commerce and other disciplines lecture throughout the semester. The 150-200 students enrolled come from across UVA. Course assistants/graders will gain experience in guiding and grading students. The role does not require extensive knowledge of sustainability or architecture. The position requires an average of 10 hours per week throughout the semester (max. 150 hours per semester) depending on whether there is an assignment to grade that week. Responsibilities:

  • Attend class on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 - 12:15 to hear the lecture and assist the instructor with logistics if needed.
  • Grade course assignments
  • Provide guidance to students as needed

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for the topic of sustainability
  • Ability to provide thoughtful feedback and grade written assignments
  • Commitment to complete job duties on time

Pay range: $18 per hour (work study preferred)

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
