Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Operations coordinates and oversees the day-to-day management of several departments at Macy’s. They manage daily activities and develop both short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure that facility and organizational goals are achieved. This individual also performs other necessary duties as required. 

What You Will Do

  • Provide shift leadership to achieve departmental KPI goals and customer service levels by ensuring that individual and team productivity rates meet quality expectations
  • Ensure departments meet or exceed performance requirements in safety, shortage control, cost management, quality, processing standards, flexibility, reliability, customer service, and execution of plans
  • Manage and develop the team to promote individual growth and performance excellence, conduct performance reviews, and ensure regular counseling and coaching
  • Continuously analyze work processes to identify optimization opportunities and implement process improvements
  • Foster a highly motivated team and a positive work culture committed to delivering superior customer service
  • Review analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecasts to assess departmental progress toward goals and objectives
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed and understood, maintaining high inventory accuracy and shortage control
  • Maintain consistent, thorough, and timely communication with subordinates, peers, and senior management
  • Provide a safe work environment for staff by developing and enforcing safe work practices and ensuring compliance with safety programs
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
  • Demonstrate regular, dependable attendance and punctuality

Skills You Will Need

Operations Leadership: Proven ability to lead a team with a clear vision and strategy, focusing on results, driving change, and developing personnel. 

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with subordinates, peers, and senior management. 

Analytical Skills: Proficiency in basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and strong analytical capabilities to assess operations and performance. 

Industry Knowledge: Understanding of warehouse management and supply chain/logistics trends to inform decision-making. 

Problem Solving: Creative problem-solving skills and innovative approaches to address complex issues in a fast-paced environment. 

Process Improvement: Ability to analyze work processes, identify optimization opportunities, and implement effective process improvements. 

Team Development: Experience in managing and developing teams to promote individual growth and performance excellence. 

Technical Skills: Familiarity with data management tools (e.g., Excel, Access) to manage and analyze operational data. 

Facility Start-Up Experience: Experience in facility start-up is preferred, enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.

  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. 
    • Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders
    • May involve reaching above eye level
    • Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
