Position performs routine and/or special assays on blood and other body fluids including bone marrow aspirates and cores, amniotic fluid, chorionic villi samples, and other tissues.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Laboratory testing includes but is not limited to chromosome analysis, chromosomal microarray and Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization (FISH).
- Position includes opportunity for advancement to Technologist I and further.
- Hands-on training includes recognition and classification of G-banded chromosomes using microscopes and computer-captured images as well as training in specialized computer software designed specifically for chromosome analysis.
- Performs routine assays according to laboratory standard operating procedures, including specimen processing, instrument maintenance, cleaning and minor troubleshooting, lab supply inventory and storage; may perform special assays with supervision by a senior medical technologist or supervisor.
- May perform cell culture, understands, and uses aseptic technique. Prepares reagents used in laboratory procedures.
- Assesses quality of samples for processing and cell culture. Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor and lab leadership of unusual situations and requests technical assistance.
- May assist with validation of new assays; compiles data for supervisory review; utilizes database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
- Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of assay methods and clinical relevance; participates in relevant continuing education.
- Assists supervisor and other lab leadership with other duties and special projects as needed.

- Position is located within the Washington University Clinical Genomics lab, in the Department of Pathology.

$20.57 - $30.84 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
