The Investment Analyst - Data and Operational Due Diligence will be an integral member of the Investment team. Emory Investment Management (EIM) manages Emory University's endowment with AUM of $11 billion+.

 

Has responsibilities associated with investment data analytics, technology solutions, operational due diligence, and investment transaction services. This role has exposure across Emory's entire portfolio including Public Equity, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Real Assets, and Credit investments. Reports to the Managing Director of Risk (Tech, Data, and Analytics).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Investment Data Analytics:

  • Support the Managing Director of Risk in designing and performing data analysis to evaluate and optimize the portfolio's risk profile, performance, and overall exposure.
  • Works with the investment team on the critical tools and analysis that support performance assessment and attribution, asset allocation, exposure monitoring, liquidity modeling, and risk management.
  • Collaborates on technology initiatives, including researching, recommending, and implementing software solutions to support asset allocation, performance analysis, risk management, fund manager research, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Assists in the automation and integration of investment data workflows to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy, including AI enhancements.
  • Supports ongoing risk monitoring efforts by maintaining and analyzing investment-related data.
  • Develops and implements strategies to enhance data quality, completeness, and accuracy across investment datasets.
  • Assists with internal and external reporting needs, including the preparation and review of Investment Committee Reports.
  • Leads and manages ad hoc projects as needed.

Operational Due Diligence:

  • Supports the Managing Director of Risk in conducting operational due diligence on alternative investment funds and managers, including hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, and real assets.
  • Evaluates investment managers' operational infrastructure, systems, and regulatory compliance to assess operational risks and identify potential concerns.
  • Reviews key due diligence materials and participates in calls and meetings with senior investment manager personnel, service providers, and other related stakeholders.
  • Prepares comprehensive written reports summarizing operational due diligence findings and risk assessments.
  • Stays informed on market developments, industry trends, and regulatory changes impacting investment managers to develop market intelligence, identify risks, and recommends best practices for process enhancements.

Investment Transaction Services:

  • Supports investment transaction services, including deal management, structuring, legal review, and negotiation.
  • Works closely with external legal counsel, investment professionals, and internal operations teams to address legal, tax, regulatory, and business considerations for new investments.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in finance or accounting, and two years of relevant experience.
  • CFA, CPA, CAIA, and/or IMDDA are not required but viewed favorably.
  • Experience in investment data analytics, operational due diligence, or portfolio risk management preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage and interpret complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs, particularly Excel for data analytics, aggregation, and visualization.
  • Experience with portfolio analytics platforms, Bloomberg, and other investment software is an advantage.
  • Experience working with structured data using a modern scripting language, preferably R or Python is a plus.
