Associate or Full Professor and Director of University of Washington Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine

The University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine is seeking exceptionally qualified candidates for the next Director of University of Washington Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM). The position is full-time with a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months ofservice over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. 

Stem cell biology and regenerative medicine promise unprecedented breakthroughs in healing for the 21st century.  The Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM) at the University of Washington (UW) plays an integral part in this network, pursuing cutting edge research into the mechanisms of the human body’s astonishing power to heal itself.  Among the world’s premier biomedical research institutions, the UW School of Medicine, School of Engineering and its affiliated institutions, Fred Hutch and Seattle Children’s, are renowned pioneers in this science.

ISCRM is composed of over 130 research labs focused on fundamental discoveries in stem cell science and regenerative medicine. The academic mission of ISCRM is to provide resources and expertise, and to act as a unifying force and integrator for the stem cell and regenerative research community at UW and beyond. ISCRM acts as a forum for faculty and trainees from different fields to learn from each other, generate new ideas and research, and initiate collaborations.

These principles are the foundation of ISCRM value to the State of Washington and contribute to international science communities, and the public. This mission centers on three areas. (1) Discovery: to understand the molecular and cellular basis of cell regeneration and translate these findings to improve patient care and the development of innovative technologies. (2) Training: to provide high-quality, rigorous training that prepares students, postdoctoral scholars, and clinical fellows for science-and medicine-related careers. (3) Communication: to disseminate scientific results the value of regenerative medicine and share our passion for equity in science, and to champion biomedical research within our community.

The new director of the ISCRM is expected to develop a world class institute that utilizes the existing strengths, identifies future focus areas, and leads ground-breaking discoveries.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program, to contribute to the teaching responsibilities of the unit through existing or new courses, and to contribute to the department’s commitment to service within the School of Medicine, the UW, or the greater Seattle community.

The base salary range for this position will be: $11,667 to $37,500 per month ($140,004 - $450,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field. An MD or MD/PhD degree (or foreign equivalents) are also acceptable. 

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
