Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Medical Assistant in the Diabetes and Metabolism Care Clinic.
As the first point of contact for patients, the Medical Assistant will play a vital role in creating a welcoming and efficient experience for patients. This position will ensure that patient check-in processes run smoothly, insurance is verified, and patient records are up-to-date, while maintaining high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
Major Responsibilities
Patient Check-In: Welcome patients upon arrival, confirm appointments, and guide them through the check-in process.
Insurance Verification: Verify insurance details, ensure eligibility, and explain any pertinent payment policies to patients.
Demographic Updates: Confirm and update patient contact information, emergency contacts, and other essential details.
Communication Management: Answer and triage incoming phone calls, addressing patient inquiries, directing calls to appropriate personnel, and ensuring efficient communication.
Required Qualifications
Two years of clerical experience in a patient care setting such as a medical clinic, hospital, mental health facility, facility for the developmentally disabled, or other type of healthcare facility.
Substitutions:
Experience as a nursing assistant will substitute for the required experience on the basis of two years of nursing assistant experience for one year of the required experience.
A certificate of completion from a medical assistant training program earned at a college or technical institute accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools will substitute for one year of the required experience.
