Job Description

We are seeking a senior engineer who specializes in Azure SQL management, maintenance, automation, and operation. We build and operate SaaS products that run the financial operations for the world’s law firms. This person will help our team take automation to the next level. The person will help our team be better automated, have operational intelligence, be safer, and run self-service operations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Define and refine the operational practices for the database estate.
• Work with the rest of the operations staff to manage and optimize deployments, upgrades, and rollouts.
• Work closely with the load test team and other performance management teams to help optimize the applications.
• Improve operational alerts and escalations to be more effective and less noisy.
• Work with architects, other engineers, and operations to design, manage, and evaluate the DR and HA strategies.
• Assist with FinOps by understanding our spending on databases and how to optimize that spend.
• Occasionally consult directly with our customers and our services people in the field (very little or no travel is required)
• Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and training to junior engineers.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of operational experience with Azure SQL Database, especially Elastic Pools.
• Expertise interpreting SQL query performance.
• Expertise evaluating query plans.
• Expert knowledge of SQL Server tooling including SSMS, query store, extended events, profiler, Azure Data Studio.
• Experience with automation in Azure, probably with PowerShell or other scripting language.
• Knowledge of C# and .NET including .NET Core.
• Experience with Git and Azure DevOps.
