Internship: Route visualization for the Vector feeding system (collaborative)

Job Description

Are you studying software engineering, computer science or another related subject? (HBO) And are you looking for an internship in the technical playground of Lely? Then read on quickly!

The vector system is an automatic feeding system used on farms to feed cows in the barn.  The cows are fed by a self-propelled robot, the Mix and Feed Robot (MFR), which brings the feed stored in the "feed kitchen" to the feeding fences. 

When the Vector system is installed on a farm, a trained service technician programs different routes. The robot follows these routes to go back and forth between the feed kitchen and the feed fences.  

Right now, there is a Proof of Concept of a route visualization feature designed to help users understand where the robot is going, but it is not yet ready to be integrated into our system. That's where we need your help!

Practical information

• This is a collaborative internship.
• You are available at least 32 hours per week for your internship.
• You are available from the end of January 2024 for a period of 6 months.
• You speak fluently English.

Qualifications

During this internship you will work to further develop, refine and adapt the current program to company standards.  

The main tasks you will be working on are: 

• Extending the current infrastructure and improving the way our robots communicate the important information for route visualization. 
• Further develop an algorithm to draw routes from the data. 
• Extend front-end of user interface with JavaScript, Vue.js. 
• Modify back-end to provide front-end with needed data in C++. 
• Work with various stakeholders to research a direction for the feature. 
• Collaborate with UX team to find the best user-friendly design. 
• Collaborate with the rest of the development team and adhere to the process (think code reviews, version control with git, SCRUM, etc.)

Job Requirements

• You are analytical and accurate. 
• You have experience with programming.
• You have affinity with: Computer Science, JavaScript, Vue.js, knowledge of ROS2 is a plus.
• You are interested in learning and discovering new technologies.
