JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Accounting Specialist will be trained on department policies, procedures, and general accounting functions. This position will assist Accounting Specialists with day-to-day tasks and projects. This individual will progressively increase their responsibilities and eventually work independently on various department projects and procedures to become an Accounting Specialist.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES
- Responsible for general accounting functions:
- Support Account Managers with client balances
- Prepare journal entries and maintain balance sheet schedules and ledgers
- Work under the direction of Accounting Specialists to:
- Process North Risk Partners insurance company direct bill commission statements
- Reconcile and process carrier agency bill statements
- Collect customer accounts receivable
- Complete year-end closings process
- Process employee expense reports
- Process cash receipts
- Pay vendor bills based upon approved authorization matrix
- Provide information and support during the audit process
- Implement internal financial controls and procedures
- Receive, approve, code, and when necessary, investigate client accounts payable invoices for staff to input
- Prepare daily journal entries, including daily sweeps from company sweeps
- Prepare analysis of accounts as requested
- Prepare appropriate schedules and reports as requested
- Perform miscellaneous projects and complete various tasks as requested by management
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
- A combination of education and experience generally attained through a high school degree, bachelor's degree, or associate's degree (Accounting degree preferred) and general knowledge of finance principles
- General knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding accounting, finances, and taxation
- Demonstrated technical accounting skills
- Strong attention to detail with organizational skills, demonstrating ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Perform under normal office conditions; may include lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Twist, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, stand, walk, and reach frequently
- Hear, speak, and effectively verbally communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions to communicate with people inside and outside of the organization
- Sit and a desk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer
- Move around office/building/facilities repeatedly throughout the day
- Apply manual dexterity, visual acuity and ability, for computer keyboarding, office equipment uses, review of detailed reports, information, fine print, and warning labels
- Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to travel to different North Risk Partners locations for meetings, as well as various locations throughout
