Outpatient Nutritionist-Cancer Center-Part time-Day-Mount Sinai Queens
Under the direction of Clinical Nutrition leadership (Senior Director, Director, Clinical Nutrition Manager), provides quality nutrition care by working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health team within their designated practice area. Provides nutrition counseling and education to patients and family members. The Outpatient Nutritionist provides medical nutrition therapy for all patients in accordance with department and hospital philosophies, standards, objectives, and policies and procedures.
1. Evaluates the nutritional status of the patients by reviewing pertinent information obtained from the electronic medical record and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Applies knowledge of nutrition screening and assessment to provide medical nutrition therapy by developing and implementing individualized nutrition care plans for general and practice specific patient populations.
2. Provides individualized counseling to patients and caregivers, including management of food-drug interactions, therapeutic diets, and supplements.
3. Conducts nutrition-focused physical exams, as indicated, to determine risk and/or degree of malnutrition.
4. Documents all encounters in the electronic health record per Clinical Nutrition policy.
5. Completes necessary paperwork to support insurance billing/reimbursement process.
6. Collaborates with the healthcare team regarding patients’ nutrition plan of care.
7. Completes and maintains administrative records, including productivity, annual competencies, and other documentation of direct and non-direct patient care functions, with timely submission to direct supervisor.
8. Participates in projects within the practice, including interdisciplinary nutrition related in-services, lectures, and community-focused programs.
9. Maintains a positive and professional demeanor, effectively communicating with patients, visitors, colleagues, hospital staff, and supervisors.
10. Accepts and incorporates feedback for clinical development.
11. Supports department/program goals. Adheres to department/hospital policies and procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
12. Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution, with completion of ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics)-accredited dietetic internship.
- Experience: Minimum 0 years’ experience + completion of ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics)-accredited dietetic internship.
- License/Certification: Must be a registered dietitian (RD) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) from the NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions required or process initiated upon hire.
Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,661.00 - $81,675.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
