GE Aerospace is a pioneer in ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), a revolutionary material technology that enhances jet engine performance by reducing weight, improving fuel efficiency, and enabling higher operating temperatures. Since its commitment to CMC development began in 2001, GE Aerospace has achieved significant milestones, including the 2016 launch of the LEAP engine, which features a CMC shroud and has garnered over 40,000 orders. Building on this success, the GE9X engine became the first commercial jet engine to incorporate multiple CMC components, powering its first flight in January 2020. These advancements highlight the transformative potential of CMCs, positioning GE Aerospace as a leader in driving innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry.
