Vice President, Programmatic Yield & Optimization 

Newsweek is seeking a VP Programmatic Yield & Optimization to lead and optimize our programmatic advertising revenue strategy. This role requires a deep understanding of DSPs, SSPs, DMPs, ad exchanges, and header bidding, combined with strong analytical skills to assess and maximize programmatic performance. The ideal candidate will be an expert in the ad tech ecosystem, has strong analytical skills, leveraging cutting-edge tools and data-driven insights to enhance yield, efficiency, and revenue from open and private market programmatic spend. A technical and / or analytical background is a strong plus. 

Key Responsibilities 

Programmatic Yield Optimization & Strategy 

  • Develop and execute yield optimization strategies and day to day mechanisms to maximize total revenue and revenue per page across Newsweek’s open market, private marketplace, and premium direct sold businesses. 
  • Optimize floor pricing, bid density, and auction dynamics across multiple SSPs to maximize revenue. 
  • Implement and refine header bidding and server-to-server integrations to improve efficiency. 
  • Continue to seek new supply partners to amplify Newsweek’s inventory across demand partners and ensure we are maximizing fill rates and bid competitiveness. 

Data Analysis & Revenue Performance 

  • Analyze programmatic data (impressions, CPMs, bid depth, win rates, fill rates, and demand partner performance) to uncover revenue opportunities. 
  • Utilize first-party and third-party data to drive segmentation and targeting strategies for better yield. 
  • Generate insights from A/B testing, deal performance, and inventory packaging to refine optimization approaches. 
  • Develop internal dashboards and reports that track programmatic revenue trends and support recommendations to enable sellers to win more programmatic revenue. 

Ad Tech & Partner Management 

  • Act as the primary liaison with SSPs, DSPs, DMPs, ad exchanges, and third-party vendors to troubleshoot and enhance performance. 
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to refine ad stack configurations and implement technology improvements. 
  • Stay ahead of industry trends (privacy regulations, cookie deprecation, AI in programmatic, emerging ad formats) to ensure we remain competitive. 
  • Manage ad quality controls to maintain a positive user experience and adhere to brand safety standards. 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • 10+ years in programmatic advertising, yield management, or ad operations. 
  • In-depth expertise with DSPs, SSPs, DMPs, ad exchanges, and data-driven programmatic buying. 
  • Strong understanding of auction mechanics, real-time bidding (RTB), and supply-path optimization (SPO). 
  • Advanced data analysis skills with proficiency in Excel, SQL, Looker, Tableau, and other BI tools. 
  • Knowledge of ad serving platforms (Google Ad Manager, Xandr, Magnite, Index Exchange, etc.). 
  • Experience with header bidding technologies (Prebid, Amazon TAM, or server-side bidding solutions). 
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, product, analytics, and engineering teams. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying revenue opportunities.
