What you will do

An opportunity has become available for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer in our Fire Detection R&D team. The role will be responsible for embedded software for the global region. This is a senior principal engineering role requiring a strong understanding of embedded software development in C. The position reports to the Senior Manager, Engineering in the global sensors development team.

You will be designing and developing software for the sensors and interface devices within a fire detection system; the components installed around a building monitored and controlled by a fire panel. You will work with global team to implement software solutions that ensure compliance, improve quality, and adhere to design procedures across the software development lifecycle.

How you will do it

The position requires experience of developing Embedded Software in an industrial environment implemented on microprocessor-controlled electronic devices.  The desired candidate will likely come from a software background with some hardware experience.  You will have experience with design and analysis tools such as UML.  You will have written formal design documentation and implemented solutions based on specified requirements. 

You will be excellent at working collaboratively with diverse teams to create innovative solutions that deliver customer value. 

What we look for

Required

  • Strong professional experience in C with some knowledge of C++

  • Proficiency in signal analysis and processing, algorithms and embedded systems

  • Relevant experience in a technology / industrial R&D environment.

  • Experience of communications and networks for multi-sensor systems

  • Team player with excellent communication skills

  • Leading projects and people: lead other software engineers, preparing and presenting project plans, proposals and reporting on progress

  • Job may involve some International travel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Preferred

  • Experience in a regulated or safety system industry

  • Proven formal documentation skills

  • Experience in working at the software / hardware interface using tools such as an oscilloscope

  • Development of PC based sensor support tools using C++ / C# or similar

  • Degree in a subject like Electronics, Computer Science, or similar
