The Production Planning Discipline Chief serves as a key technical authority and advisor in the area of production planning and scheduling. This role involves leveraging deep expertise to guide, support, and optimize planning processes across the organization. The Discipline Chief collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive efficiency, resolve complex challenges, and ensure alignment of production planning activities with business objectives.  

  • Act as the go-to expert on production planning methodologies, tools, and best practices.  
  • Provide technical guidance and support to production planning teams to address complex scheduling and resource allocation challenges.  
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in production planning to recommend innovative solutions.  
  • Analyze existing production planning processes and identify opportunities for improvement.  
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize production schedules, reduce lead times, and enhance operational efficiency.  
  • Standardize planning processes to ensure consistency and scalability across sites and projects.  
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and quality, to ensure seamless alignment of production plans.  
  • Act as a liaison between production planning teams and senior leadership, providing insight and recommendations to guide decision-making.  
  • Support teams in resolving critical issues that impact production schedules, capacity planning, or material availability.  
  • Mentor and train production planning personnel to build organizational capability and strengthen expertise across the team.  
  • Develop training materials, tools, and resources to enhance understanding of planning concepts and tools.  
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within production planning teams.  
  • Lead or support the implementation and optimization of production planning and ERP systems (e.g., SAP S4 Hana).  
  • Ensure proper configuration, functionality, and utilization of planning tools to maximize efficiency.  
  • Provide input on system upgrades or new tool adoption to enhance planning capabilities.  
  • Define and track key metrics to assess the performance of production planning processes.  
  • Provide regular reports and analyses to stakeholders, highlighting areas for improvement and recommending solutions.  
  • Ensure alignment of planning activities with organizational goals and compliance with regulatory requirements.  
  • This role may involve occasional travel to various production sites to provide on-site expertise and support.  

Qualifications you must have:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field and 12 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, supply chain management, or related field; or an advanced degree with 10 years of experience  
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Expertise in production planning in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace or defense industry.  
  • Proficiency with production planning and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Ortems, APO, Pelico, Kinaxis, or other).  
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable recommendations.  
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process improve
