WSP is currently initiating a search for a Vice President, Senior Drainage Engineer for our Seattle, WA office. WSP USA Operates with a Hybrid-Workplace Model. Our ideal candidate is seeking challenging work and would lead projects, build relationships with clients, mentor junior staff, and lead technical tasks for design and coordination of drainage and wastewater projects. Tasks may include managing projects, preparing budgets and scopes-of-work, leading proposal development, and preparing and reviewing technical documents.

Your Impact

  • Perform high-level project management and professional engineering relating to drainage, restoration, wastewater and other water-related projects.
  • Foster relationships with local clients to pursue upcoming projects
  • Identify upcoming drainage and water resource projects with local clients, lead projects through business case and Go-No Go decisions, and champion proposal efforts for new drainage and water resource work.
  • Provide guidance with data collection efforts for collecting, identifying, and compiling appropriate data from both field and digital data sources.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams to execute projects including, budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analyses memos.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections, and other illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Prepare and lead delivery of project drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for drainage and wastewater projects
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Engage in local team’s on-going process improvement work which may include development and updating of internal tools and protocols.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering with a focus in water resources or a closely related discipline
  • 12+ years of relevant post education experience in drainage design
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in Washington State
  • Proficient knowledge of drainage design engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental and local permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Well-defined knowledge of conveyance systems and stormwater BMP planning, design, engineering, cost estimating, and project management in the Pacific Northwest including Washington State.
  • Proficient ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
