Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers dedicated to developing cutting-edge processing platforms for our product lines. This team encompasses expertise across multiple engineering domains, including project engineering, hardware, software, firmware, and systems engineering, all focused on embedded processing platforms. These advanced platforms will serve a wide array of aircraft applications, spanning military and commercial fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms, as well as business and regional aviation markets.
This leader will be responsible for the operational excellence of the team, ensuring it effectively supports current development programs while scaling to meet the demands of future adopting programs. This team will work closely with top level product development groups that will leverage a product line processing solution.
Candidates must have strong technical, organizational, and leadership skills as well as a good project management understanding to enable predictable execution by the team. They will be responsible for performance management, talent acquisition, and career development for a geographically distributed team in order to position the team for strong performance now and into the future. The candidate must show the ability to motivate and empower their team. An individual in this role will interface with technical and non-technical personnel across multiple business areas within Collins Aerospace as well as external customers and suppliers, and will require excellent written and verbal communication skills.
This is an onsite role. This position can be located in either Cedar Rapids, Iowa or Melbourne, Florida.
What You Will Do:
Technical direction: Candidate must be able to lead a team and apply sound engineering principles related to systems and hardware developments.
Project management: Candidate must be able to guide team members on the management of scope, schedule, and budget for engineering design activities to ensure success of team in meeting program milestones and budgets. Candidate may be involved in project management and execution, including Earned Value and Risk Management.
Process management: Candidate must be able to guide team members on the utilization of design and development processes and ensure that the team’s activities are consistent with the established processes.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Candidate must be able to partner with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to deliver exceptional results.
Bids and proposals: Candidate must be able to lead, review, and provide guidance to team members on bid and proposal activities.
Personnel administration: Candidate must be able to make hiring decisions, performance assessment decisions, ensure management of personnel issues, develop personnel to achieve their career coals and create a highly engaged and motivated team.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
Demonstrated experience in functional and/or project leadership role for system or developments, with cost and schedule responsibility and strong background in Earned Value Management.
Experience with Avionics regulatory and certification requirements: DO-254, ARP-4754.
