Position Summary Description

Effectively leads, manages and supervises individuals and groups to ensure the effective and efficient operation of coal fired facilities through sound direction, goal setting, planning and organization and application of best practice management techniques and practices. 

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related degree or equivalent training and/or experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for a degree on the basis of two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education.  Eight (8) or more years of as an operator and/or supervisor in a process or heavy industrial area. Coal Fired power generation equipment operational experience is preferable.

Essential Functions

  • Directly supervises the Supervisor of Operation and Production Managers to ensure procedures exist, are understood, are available and are being followed to support environmentally compliant, safe, effective and efficient plant operations. Periodically reviews performance against expected procedural compliance to ensure the plant is being operated in an environmentally compliant, safe, and efficient manner. 
  • Provides a safe and productive work environment for team members congruent with Seminole’s desired culture and in full support of Seminole’s purpose, core values, core competencies and organizational goals.
  • Detailed planning is conducted for up to three years in advance. More generalized planning is conducted for up to five years in the future.
  • Work Plans and Budget:
    1. Initiates and supervises the development of the annual Plant operations budget and staffing. Presents budgets to the  Plant Manager  for approval. Reviews the work accomplished and the expenditures compared to the work plan and budget to determine level of performance and takes corrective action as necessary throughout the year.
    2. Develops a long-term Plant operations plan, emphasizing efficiency, cost control, asset preservation and Plant improvement.
    3. With the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Manager, the Administrative Specialist and Engineering, plan and schedule short and long-term equipment operations & maintenance activities to maintain availability, prevent forced outages and support plant goals.
  • Evaluates and approves training programs developed for plant technicians by the Supervisor of Operations.
  • Makes recommendations to hire, terminate, discipline, promote or demote employees.
  • Prepares annual work schedules to best support operation of plant as well as the outage periods necessary to maintain the plant equipment.
  • Approves employee requests for paid time off and changes in work schedule.
  • Monitors plant conditions and events by maintaining contact with the Supervisor of Operations and Production Manager, reviewing logs and reports and making direct plant observations. Implement actions to correct adverse conditions or prevent occurrence or re-occurrence of adverse plant events.
  • Organizes assignments of the Supervisor of Operation to support the "plant as the customer" philosophy while maintaining respect for employees. 
  • Investigates unplanned events with assistance of Maintenance Manager and Plant Engineer.
  • Provides short-term relief coverage for the Maintenance Manager, and/or Plant Manager, 
  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole’s Standard Ownership
