Assesses, educates, and supports individuals with breastfeeding concerns or difficulties.


 

Job Description:


 

Essential Functions:

  • Assesses the breast/chestfeeding needs of parents and infants.
  • Develops and implements individualized care plans for parents and infants.
  • Provides education and counseling to parents and families on breast/chestfeeding techniques and infant nutrition.
  • Evaluates and monitors the progress of parents and infants in meeting their breast/chestfeeding goals.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for parents and infants.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all lactation consultations and interventions.


Education Requirement:

BSN; Associate degree with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Registered Dietician, Licensed Dietician, or Occupational Therapist in the State of Ohio, required.


Certifications:

  • Registered (R) by the American Dietetic Association or the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent licensure, required.
  • Certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association, or equivalent licensure and registration, required.
  • Certification in Lactation Management by International Board of Certified Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Advanced Nurse Lactation Consultant (ANLC), or equivalent, required.


Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and teaching abilities.


Experience:

  • Two years of clinical experience in relevant field, required.
  • Two years of mother-infant dyad experience,required.


Physical Requirements:

OCCASIONALLY: Blood and/or Bodily Fluids, Communicable Diseases and/or Pathogens, Driving motor vehicles (work required) *additional testing may be required, Hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, Lifting / Carrying: 0-10 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 11-20 lbs, Loud Noises, Patient Equipment, Peripheral vision, Pushing / Pulling: 0-25 lbs, Reaching above shoulder

FREQUENTLY: Audible speech, Bend/twist, Color vision, Depth perception, Seeing – Far/near, Sitting, Squat/kneel, Walking

CONTINUOUSLY: Computer skills, Decision Making, Flexing/extending of neck, Hearing acuity, Interpreting Data, Problem solving, Repetitive hand/arm use, Standing
