Position Summary

The Lee lab within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine focuses on the molecular pathogenesis of acute lung injury from severe pneumonia and sepsis. The group studies host-pathogen interactions utilizing relevant respiratory pathogens to understand the basis of normal and aberrant host response that impact the function of the alveolar capillary barrier interface.

The technician will serve as the liaison to clinical-translational studies and processing of human biosamples and assist and execute technical parts of studies and experiments, including documentation and material preparation in a high-impact research laboratory.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
  • Enters data and maintains current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality.
  • May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data.
  • Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic techniques such as PCR and ELISA.
  • Prior experience with basic biochemical techniques such as Western blotting or experience with light, confocal or electron microscopy.
  • Experience with rodents or in the field of veterinary science.
  • Experience with flow cytometry and FACS analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 7 years.

Salary Range

$18.40 - $31.31 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
