Position SummaryAt HackerOne, we’re on a mission to empower the world to build a safer internet. Last year we created a new engineering team with an outsized impact and we’re looking for a security-minded (Senior) Software Engineer to help us innovate, automate and propel our platform forward.
As Senior Software Engineer at HackerOne, you will participate in a new and ambitious project and drive architectural discussions and decisions. You will be part of the Gateway Squad; a team responsible for building and maintaining our Gateway solution and where we are building a new product integrated with a third party. This product will allow companies to control and monitor any hacker activity on their (internal) assets.
As Senior Software Engineer you understand what it takes to build highly available, performant and durable product features. You work cross-functionally within your squad and within our company, earning buy-in from stakeholders, with a service mentality. You seek leadership responsibilities, identify and spearhead new initiatives, and make systematic improvements to technical weaknesses you find in your squad’s codebase.

Your Journey At HackerOne

• Your first month will be spent getting to know our company and your fellow HackerOnies through our well-organized and fun onboarding process called H.A.T.C.H. You will be setting up your development environment, getting a feel for our engineering processes, fully understanding our Gateway VPN solution and participating in the rollout of the new solution to customers
• By day 30 you will have met most of your fellow Engineering HackerOnies, you will have paired with other Software Engineers, you will have a strong feel for our codebases and Gateway product and will be prepared to make recommendations to make our product even better.
• By day 60 you’ll be leading a meaningful part of the project for the team and you will have become more connected within the larger HackerOne organization.
• By day 90 you’ll have impressed your colleagues with your technical contributions, you’ll have earned trust and credibility within the larger Engineering team and you’ll be poised to present some of your work to the whole company through a Lunch Session, or a Lightning Talk at our weekly All-Hands
• Your experience from here is yours to own. You could expand your influence through Technical Guild work. You could innovate during a Hack Week, by building something amazing that solves a problem for another team.

Who You Are

• You are a professional Software Engineer with strong leadership abilities
• You have 6+ years of (open source) development experience within a SAAS environment
• You are a flexible thinker, able to creatively solve old problems in new ways and new problems in old ways
• You can earn trust from your colleagues, plan a project, align priorities, groom a sprint, lead and model the work, document your decisions and complete the project cleanly
• You know how to make a strong impact on a team level, while influencing the larger Engineering organization
• You naturally support, inspire and mentor your colleagues
• HackerOne is a digital first company, and all employees must be able to work and excel in a remote environment
