Job Duties
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a highly motivated and autonomous individual to support the Waiver Customized Rate Team. This position is responsible for determining eligibility of customized rate waiver funding requests by conducting assessments and performing onsite assessments, which may include but is not limited to review of individual support plans, service authorizations, medical and behavioral data, staffing schedules, and program budgets. The selected candidate will be responsible for working with service providers to schedule onsite assessments across the state of Virginia and requires up to 75% travel.
Additional responsibilities include:
• Discussing appropriate service alternatives with service providers.
• Implementing training, technical assistance, and referrals to services, as needed.
• Providing expert recommendations in resolving barriers through the exploration of all available community, waiver, and natural resources.
• Ensuring individuals and service providers have explored all appropriate resources according to their assessed needs.
• Communicating the results of assessments to the Customized Rate Review Committee, case managers, service providers, Department of Medical Assistance Service (DMAS) appeals department and leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of the Developmental Disability Service Program.
• Knowledge of services and support options, support levels and tiers, and Supports Intensity Scale (SIS©)
• Knowledge of reimbursement rates.
• Knowledge of licensing and human rights regulations.
• Knowledge of best practices in developmental disability services.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments independently.
• Ability to use a range of computer programs and database applications such as Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of the support needs of people with disabilities (physical, cognitive, emotional).
• Strong negotiation and problem resolution techniques.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work with a variety of professionals in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities with expertise in complex medical and behavioral supports.
Additional Considerations
• Understanding of medical terminology, and medical standards of treatment.
• Experience in service delivery and best practices in developmental disability services.
• Experience in the use of the Waiver Management System (WaMS).
