Northrop Grumman is seeking Hardware Mechanical Engineers for an internship opportunity. This position will be located at our Mission Systems Sector in Buffalo, NY.
 

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Targeting & Survivability (T&S) Division and dynamic Mechanical Engineering & Design team.

This team is responsible for the engineering, design and packaging of hardware sub-systems used in the testing of military radars, radar warning receivers, and jamming systems to protect the war fighter. These Radio Frequency and Digital sub-systems consist of state-of-the-art custom designed and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware enclosed in racks, chassis, and circuit cards. 

The group provides an opportunity to design ground mobile test and training equipment used to train pilots and electronic warfare officers at training ranges throughout the country.  This engineering group is also responsible for air flow, thermal, and structural analysis, and component engineering.
 

Basic Qualifications:

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2026

  • Be majoring in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) degree 

  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2026.
     
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher
     
  • Familiarity, educational background, or experience with:
    • 3D CAD modeling tools (SolidWorks, Siemens NX)
    •  PLM tools (Siemens Teamcenter)
    • Hardware design, including drawing and bill of material creation, thermal analysis
    • Confidence and proficiency presenting to peers and management
       

Intern Pay Range:

Bachelor’s: $18.75 to $34.50 per hour

Master’s: $27.00 to $42.50 per hour

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.
