The Senior Research Scientist participates in research study design, analysis and interpretation of results, with special emphasis on statistical and analytical plan development; data acquisition, preparation, and management; statistical analysis and interpretation of findings. The Senior Research Scientist work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.Humana’s Healthcare Quality & Reporting Improvement (HQRI) department is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join a high-performing team dedicated to advancing predictive modeling and analytics in support of our Medicare and Medicaid business. The HQRI team plays a pivotal role within Humana, delivering insights that drive the effectiveness of risk adjustment initiatives.
In this position, the Senior Research Scientist will apply advanced statistical methods to rigorously evaluate the impact of risk adjustment programs and pilot projects. The findings generated will be critical in informing key business decisions and optimizing operational strategies.
Additionally, the Senior Research Scientist will collaborate with colleagues specializing in data science and actuarial analytics. We are seeking a candidate who brings complementary skills to the team, with the ability to serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert in research study design and analysis.

Objectives:
- Within six months, take ownership of existing program evaluation projects
- Within 2 years, create a framework for evaluating risk adjustment programs and expand our scope to evaluate a broader array of risk adjustment programs
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of demonstrated research science or related experience
- Proficiency with one of the following: SQL, SAS, R or Python
- Experience using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions
- Ability to use independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action
- Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher education
- Experience in health care, insurance, or risk adjustment
This position is remote and work can be performed anywhere in the US; however, preference is for candidates to be located within reasonable commutable distance to Louisville, Kentucky.
