Infant and Toddler Special Education Teacher

Education and Work Experience
•    Bachelor’s degree in special education.
•    Meets certification requirements as established by the Maryland State Department of Education, licensure in Early Childhood Special Education.
      o    Please attach a copy of your license when applying.
•    3 years of satisfactory teaching experience.  

Qualifications
•    Experience working with young children (birth through 3 years) with a wide range of developmental levels and a variety of disabilities.
•    Demonstrated knowledge, training, and/or coursework in early childhood special education.
•    Ability to speak and write effectively.
•    Knowledge of Part C and Part B regulations.
•    Evidence of effective communication and rapport with parents and the community.
•    Evidence of being able to work well in a team; consulting with team members, sharing strategies and information, and incorporating parent priorities into the IFSP service delivery.
•    Experience monitoring the development of young children in all domains; (cognition, fine motor, gross motor, and social/emotional, adaptive/self-help, language) and a variety of evaluation tools.
•    Evidence of exemplary human relations skills.
•    Experience with evidence-based practices for delivering services to young children.

Essential Job Functions
•    Complete developmental assessment and evaluation of Infants and toddlers, birth through age 3.
•    Develop high-quality Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) that accurately reflect the child and family needs.
•    Coordinate home or community-based parent coaching sessions to serve children and families in the natural environment, supporting the family/caregiver to integrate activities and strategies into the child’s daily routine.
•    Monitor progress on outcomes, document data, and report on the IFSP six-month or annual reviews.
•    Work as part of the transdisciplinary team to provide services in a coordinated manner, including using parent coaching and incorporating strategies from other disciplines.
•    Attends and participates in IEP meetings as part of the transition process to Part B services for students after turning age 3.
•    Adheres to policies and procedures for implementation of Part C, IDEA, Infants and Toddlers Program.
•    May serve as service coordinator or case manager for children with IFSPs. 
•    This position may require occasional travel within the district and attendance at evening meetings or events.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
