Please no phone calls or emails. The projected end date for this temporary assignment is August 31, 2025. This assignment is located at the JJ Pickle Research Campus. The mission of TexNet is to monitor seismicity and understand the hazards presented by earthquakes in Texas. TexNet has a network of stations in the state that monitor ground motion and allow TexNet to determine the location and magnitude of earthquakes. Stations are typically solar-powered and have instruments that sense ground motion, log the data and transmit it to servers in Austin currently using cell modems. The selected candidate must have a current Texas driver's license with a clean driving record.
Purpose
Support deployment and maintenance of TexNet seismic stations to ensure optimal availability and quality of seismic data.
Responsibilities
TexNet is looking for individuals who have experience or are willing to learn electronic, mechanical, and power system maintenance. This involves deployment, debugging, and configuration of instruments to expand our network as needed and keep the existing network running properly.
The successful candidate will learn to; analyze station performance remotely to determine maintenance needs; and configure modems, dataloggers, and sensors for installation. Prepare correct bill of materials and tools for maintenance trips and keep accurate maintenance records. Drive UT vehicle as needed for the job assignment.
Required Qualifications
Two-year technical degree from a University or Community College in electronics technology or related field. One year of professional experience working with electronic instrumentation. Knowledge of common electronics test devices such as voltmeters. Interest and aptitude to learn configuration and debugging of electronic instruments such as cell modems, dataloggers and ground motion sensors. Good mechanical skills and willingness to learn are essential.

Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
