Patient Support Technician, General Surgery, FT, Day

Job Summary

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, provides excellent customer service while providing clerical and administrative services. Performs general reception duties at the nurse's station including greeting visitors and responding to patient calls. Monitors, orders and stocks supplies. Maintains a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Establishes and maintains excellent rapport with Registered Nurses, providers, hospital staff, patients, families, and visitors.

Essential Functions

• Communicates and informs appropriate personnel, patients, and family members of pertinent information in a timely manner.

• Maintains accurate paper and electronic documentation.

• Utilizes equipment and supplies safely and appropriately; orders supplies as needed; labels specimens correctly.

• Performs basic nursing care, simple and complex procedures, multiple treatments, waived testing, and transports assigned patients.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant or Nursing Fundamentals course.

• Experience - Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant or related experience preferred.

In Lieu Of

• In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, the following combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered an equivalent substitution:

• required coursework, will accept 1 year of related healthcare experience.

• nursing assistant training course will accept current or former South Carolina CNA certification as proof of completed state-required training at the time of hire.   

• school verification of a medical assistant training course. They will accept current or former CMA certification as proof of completed required training at the time of hire.
