About the role

Overview

This is a provisional appointment. 

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant will be assigned to the Auditing and Finance Division and perform professional accounting work that involves advanced technical and specialized fiscal skills. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining all control accounts; preparing accounting, expense, and other fiscal reports; responding to various vendor inquiries; and related duties as required.
  • In addition, the Senior Accountant will input and track all Department expenses using various computer systems and spreadsheets, including PeopleSoft, the City of Boston’s new financial computer system.
  • Performs related work as required. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in accounting, auditing, or bookkeeping work.
  • It is strongly preferred that all applicants have experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PeopleSoft.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
