Summary
Responsible for ensuring ample quantity of potable water for domestic and industrial use at adequate pressure without interruption and ensure the collection of domestic and industrial wastewater is uninterrupted to prevent environmental pollution.
Pay Range: $19.90 - $28.14 (Depending on qualifications and experience)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Install, maintain, calibrate and repair low, medium and high voltage electrical motor controls, electrical systems and pumps & motors for the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Maintain and repair electrical hardware such as motor controllers, 1450 kw generators, switch gear, etc.
Install electrical and electronic conduit, wiring, and controllers.
Install SCADA and security systems, as well as transmitters, receivers, panel meters and recorders.
Weld and fabricate brackets and framework for new and rehab construction
Install upgrades to all systems used in water distribution and wastewater collection.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
2 years experience in process mechanics, trouble shooting, installation and repair
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent
Technical or vocational training in industrial mechanics, hydraulics and electrical devices
2-3 years experience in municipal water and wastewater applications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of standards, techniques, methods, practices, regulations, tools, materials, and equipment used in Water and Wastewater Utility Operations
Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory, troubleshooting and repair techniques
Knowledge of the operation of power and hand tools, and specialized equipment
Ability to read, and understand technical manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions
Ability to lead and train other craft workers as assigned
Ability to operate computer and perform basic mathematical and algebraic calculations
Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and time constraints
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
Must obtain Class B CDL Texas Driver’s License within 9 months of hire date.
Must obtain a TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License and Class I Wastewater Collection License within 18 months of hire date.
Must obtain a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License and Class II Wastewater Collection License within 3 years of hire date.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works typically in an indoor and outdoor environment and may be subjected to extremes of inclement weather, noxious odors and fumes, as well as exposure to the hazards of high-voltage electrical shock, raw sewage, oxygen deficient and poisonous atmospheres, communicable diseases, high levels of vibration and noise, moving machine parts and crush hazards. Physical tasks may include lifting, crawling, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, scaffolding, descending underground and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
