Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:
NBCUniversal’s Operations and Technology group is looking for a Senior Director of Network and Production Engineering for NBC Sports in Stamford, CT.  The candidate will lead a highly technical team of network engineers and architects responsible for building and supporting NBC Sports facilities and remote productions for major events.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Provides overall leadership and strategic direction to the NBC Sports Network Engineering team that supports the NBC Sports Stamford, CT facility and critical production events globally.
  • Expertise in large-scale network engineering with experience in IP-Based architectures for live-to-air video broadcasting in hybrid cloud environments.
  • Expert level experience designing and deploying network infrastructure to support TV/Film production from inception through post-production.  Detailed knowledge of both linear and non-linear workflows and how to implement network solutions to meet the latency, redundancy, and transfer requirements inherent in these workflows.
  • Ability to architect, deploy, and support major “tentpole” event topologies.
  • Strong hands-on understanding of IPv4/6, routing protocols (OSPF, MP-BGP, MPLS), video standards and codecs including RTP, SRT, HLS, JPEG-XS, 2022-7, ST2110.
  • Ability to drive innovation by advising engineering teams and other stakeholders on the strategic landscape of technology in the media and entertainment ecosystems.
  • Ability to review network designs, configurations, and real-time traffic patterns to assess network capacity, detect suboptimal network state, and identify potential points of failure.
  • Lead the resolution of escalated network incidents, conduct post-mortems, perform root cause analysis, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Ability to travel domestic and international for planned marquee sporting events sometime for extended periods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge and extensive hands-on with Cisco products and software including ASR, Nexus, IOS/XR/NX platforms.
  • Solid understanding of production TV workflows with experience integrating video solutions onto large scale networks.
  • Extensive experience supporting both in-house production teams and remote studio operations throughout the full the production schedule to include both scripted and live-to-air events.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
