FacultyPosition Summary
Teaches students effectively in assigned classes and maintains office hours for student consultation. Dallas College is seeking an experienced teacher/practitioner in Live Sound and Music Production to teach Live Sound I and II. Preference will be given to candidates with significant professional experience in live sound reinforcement, audio engineering, music production, and performance, particularly within contemporary commercial music settings.
The ideal candidate will approach live sound from a musician-centered perspective, with a strong understanding of how sound reinforcement supports performers, ensembles, and the overall audience experience. Candidates should be comfortable working across a wide range of commercial music genres, including pop, rock, R&B, jazz, country, musical theatre, and related styles.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Seeking active professionals with a demonstrated record of work in live sound, performance, or production at the local, regional, national, or international level.
- Primary teaching responsibilities include Live Sound I and II (with Live Sound I offered initially and Live Sound II to follow in a subsequent semester). The candidate may also teach private lessons in an applied area—particularly a rhythm section instrument (e.g., bass, drums, guitar, keys, etc.)—and participate in ensemble and recital activities as part of the Commercial Music faculty.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with students.
- Our student body is highly engaged, supportive, and diverse. We seek a faculty member who embraces an open-minded, inclusive, and student-centered approach to teaching. Many of our students enter the program with strong musical instincts, creativity, and enthusiasm but limited traditional training, and the successful candidate should be comfortable working with students across a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and ability levels, including military veterans.
Must be highly organized and proficient with contemporary music technology, including digital audio workstations, live sound consoles, microphones, signal flow, MIDI, and related hardware and software. Experience with Mac-based systems and learning management platforms (e.g., eCampus) is expected.
Because live sound is central to the weekly recital and performance activities that serve as a focal point of the Commercial Music program, the successful candidate should be comfortable working closely with students and faculty in performance-based environments, including both on-campus and off-campus events.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage live sound in real-time performance settings with professionalism and reliability.
Must understand standard live sound operational practices, including working with efficiency and a strong sense of urgency to execute thorough sound checks within limited time windows in support of weekly Commercial Music recitals and performances.
- The ability to provide quality customer service.
