Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI) provides management and professional liability insurance, cyber insurance, crime insurance, and surety bonds to or on behalf of businesses of all sizes. The attorneys within BSI Legal Services are responsible for providing a wide range of cost-effective, high quality legal services to our internal business partners, primarily with respect to transactional and regulatory matters. The Associate Counsel position handles lower complexity legal matters while also collaborating with more senior attorneys within BSI Legal Services on higher complexity legal matters.

What Will You Do?

  • Provide counsel to internal clients within the BSI business and support units on lower complexity legal issues.
  • Proactively work with internal business partners to understand their business objectives and help them achieve those objectives in a compliant manner while also helping them mitigate any associated legal risks.
  • Proactively identify legal risks impacting BSI and communicate those risks to Legal Services colleagues and internal business partners while also providing recommendations on how to mitigate such risks.
  • Negotiate contract terms with external clients and advise internal business partners on the potential impact of proposed contract terms.
  • Draft and/or prepare legal documents for execution.
  • Draft new surety bond forms or update existing surety bond forms in furtherance of current business objectives and current legal requirements.
  • Draft responses to external inquiries or requests.
  • Review and analyze proposed/enacted/adopted laws or regulations for potential BSI impact.
  • Conduct legal research related to issues impacting BSI and communicate research findings to Legal Services colleagues and BSI business partners
