Duties
Prepare a variety of moderately complex technical drawings, specifications, or electrical systems, to ensure installation and operations conforming to standards for utility-scale photovoltaic generation facilities. Produce deliverables which include one-lines, connection diagrams, communication, AC trench, DC cable system, electrical equipment procurement, bill of quantities, construction record drawings, As-builts & perform site visits during and after the construction to comply with the needs of witness test requirements. Operate computer-assisted engineering or design software or equipment to perform calculations such as AC/DC loading calcs, ampacity calcs, voltage drop, short circuit, Coordination, open circuit voltage and short circuit current analysis, AC and DC Arc Flash. Software tools used: SKM, CYMCAP, Ampcalc. Perform research, design, implement, maintain distribution equipment facilities components, mentor young professionals. Confer with engineers, clients, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products to provide an engineered solution. Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal team members. Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Possess technical expertise of evaluating the system production by considering long term effects or losses using PVSyst. Design complete projects of moderately complex scope for commercial and utility scale solar. No hire / fire authority. Requirements
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline, plus at least three years of related experience. In the alternative, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline, plus at least five years of related experience. Must have experience with system design and performance modeling, including: maintaining accurate system performance models in PVsyst and Helioscope; coordinating with Civil Engineers to iterate PV Layout and civil site features; conducting solar resource assessment using ground-based and satellite data; predicting PV energy production and system performance; estimating multi-year plant production figures; validating performance modeling through data analysis and field experiments, and reviewing performance testing documentation to understand requirements for contract compliance. Must have experience supporting business development, including: projecting costing and estimating for RFP responses; performing value engineering analysis for energy model production and installation costs; evaluating site constraints; developing and progressing PV system layouts using civil, environmental, permitting, and interconnection considerations; evaluating and selecting equipment to optimize system economics, functionality, reliability, constructability, and safety. Must have experience with Project Engineering, including: project drawings including site plans, system layout, one lines, cable management, and equipment installation details; bids and managing outside engineering consultants through the project lifecycle; adheres and complies with the established interconnection process.
