About the role

Description

We are looking for an Assistant Underwriter for our RISCO team. The Assistant Underwriter will support our Personal Lines team in assessing risks to determine appropriate costs, terms, and parameters to insure the property. Ideally, you are someone who has experience with the Surplus lines market. You are comfortable communicating via phone or email. Accuracy and attention to detail are strong points of yours.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assists the Underwriter in reviewing insurance applications, loss control reports, and actuarial studies to determine acceptable risk for selected property
  2. Provides accident and claims history, property value, and other factors to assess risk and reviews with underwriter.
  3. Prepares loss potential from catastrophes, accounting for severity and frequency of potential losses
  4. Provides details on appraisals and estimated risk to underwriter.
  5. Assists Underwriter in the underwriting of homeowners, dwelling fire and personal liability policies.
  6. Prepares quotes and reports for agents under the supervision of the Underwriter/Manager.
  7. May answer inquiries from policyholders, prospects, and/or agents
  8. Assists the Underwriter with the application process
  9. Recommends changes to underwriting policies and procedures
  10. Assists in billing/surplus tax filings as needed.
  11. Assists with application/payment/subjectivity follow up.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Fluent in MS Office Products. Ability to utilize various software and websites.
  2. Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Demonstrate accuracy and organization in all phases of performance.
  4. Ability to work in a team environment.
  5. Follow through on all assigned tasks.
  6. Ability to absorb and retain knowledge.
  7. Ability to communicate clearly, to work well with others, and to manage time effectively.

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. P&C license or ability to obtain license in first 120 days.
