Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a pediatric medical coordinator to consult with and advise the Director on pediatric public health matters. This person will provide clinical and public health expertise to Department leadership and within programs on pediatric public health issues, collaborate with the state's medical research institutions, medical schools and residency programs to participate in medical research as well as providing ongoing lectures to medical students, residents and staff on current public health pediatric issues. Functions as the medical/clinical pediatric specialist for the department, involved in the development and evaluation of public health medical programs related to the health and well-being of the children and adolescents of Illinois.

Job Responsibilities

1.  Under the management direction of the Medical Director, consults with and advises the Director on public health matters related to children and adolescents.

  • Attends meetings and participates in in-person events with the Director.
  • At the request of management and Deputy Directors, provides direction and consultation on medical services, planning and evaluation of various programs and services of medical/public health nature for children and adolescents that require a medical opinion.
  • Collaborates directly with state’s medical research institutes and medical schools to participate in medical research as well as provide lectures to medical students, residents and staff regarding current pediatric public health matters.
  • Provides medical expertise and consultation in planning and developing medical educational and training programs and working with Deputy Directors and Senior Staff on the development of new and existing public health programs in pediatric public health topics including but not limited to: neonatal health; the impact of opioids on infants and families; infant mortality prevention; child and adolescent injury prevention; asthma; obesity prevention; immunizations; family planning and sexual health; improving well-child visits; adverse childhood events and trauma; child development, children with special health care needs; social, emotional learning, and mental health; and adolescent suicide prevention; ,
  • Provides clinical expertise and consultation on child and adolescent issues for the Title V Maternal and Child Health Program.

 

2.  Reviews documents, plans and policies for medical/clinical accuracy.

  • Responsible for implementation of medical policies, goals and objectives.
  • Recommends to program staff changes necessary to assure medical integrity and validity.
