Description

Bates College, a private, highly selective, residential college in Lewiston, Maine is devoted to undergraduate study in the liberal arts. The Department of Biology invites applications for a one-year full time Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology, beginning July 1, 2025. The department would be interested in a wide-range of candidates who specialize in marine science and marine biology at the system, ecosystem, or population-level.

Teaching responsibilities (5 courses) will include contributions to the biology and general education curricula (e.g., course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) course at the 100-level, a 100-level marine science course, 200- and 300–level marine courses that might cross-list with environmental studies, and a short term marine science field course). A Ph.D. is required by the start date.

Review of applications begins February 25th, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit electronically, via Interfolio, a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and statement of teaching philosophy that describes the ability to teach courses across the curriculum, at introductory and advanced levels, including experience working with, or plans to work with, historically underrepresented, first-generation, and marginalized student populations.
