SENIOR DIE TOOLING ENGINEER

SOUTHFIELD, MI – WORLD HEADQUARTERS

 

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Position Focus:

• Performs standardized assignments involving tooling projects. Extracts engineering data from various prescribed sources; processes data following defined methods; performs routine analyses to check applicability, accuracy, and reasonableness of product designs as they apply to tooling

Scope:

• Forecast future tooling investment for global programs
• Ability to estimate Stamping die cost and timing
• Knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings including GD&T
• Ability to evaluate and report progress of tooling programs
• Knowledgeable and experienced in stamping process. Able to apply process knowledge to the tool design
• Ability to complete program on time and within budget

 

Education:

• 4-year degree and/or Tool and Die Journeyman or equivalent experience

Experience:

• 5-10 years Tool and Die Engineering/Stamping tooling and application
• 3-5 years of die design / engineering change experience

 

Job Specific Comments:

• The work factors described below are representative of those that an associate encounter to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Assist in the design and development of stamping tooling including strip layouts, simulations, die construction and press specifications
• Make purchase commitments for such tools
• Track and report progress of tooling programs from sourcing to a production ready state
• Assist in the development and updating of tooling program timelines
• Assist in the development of Die and Gage standards manual
• Assist in development and improvement of current and new tooling sources
• Function as liaison for manufacturing plant, customer, and staff headquarters during the tooling development and build cycle
• Coordinate information between tooling suppliers and internal business groups through the Engineering Manager
• Assist with home line runoff activity through PPAP, working closely with production, tool source shops, and Tooling Engineers
• Receive, catalog, copy, and distribute all engineering drawings for assigned programs
• Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Engineering Services.
• Assist Lear Corporate Purchasing on procurement of production and tryout material.
• Full working knowledge of the Lear AS400, SAP, and PLM systems

• Ability to trouble shoot dies
• Up to 35% travel to Mexico, Korea, China, and UE
