Responsibilities

Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Health Program Coordinator I. This full-time position will work within the Division of Chronic Disease Prevention, New York State Department of Health. The incumbent will be responsible for contributing to the development, facilitation and the implementation of training and education on tobacco prevention and control priorities and programs for bureau staff This position will work closely with members of the bureau of tobacco control, grantees, advisory board members, policy experts and training contractor and will monitor the professional development and training plan for both bureau staff and grant-funded contractors. Day-to-day activities will include identifying and meeting with subject matter experts, researching best practices in public health training and professional development, long-term planning and development of trainings, coordinating learning opportunities and meeting logistics with teammates, and participating in training implementation through various in-person and virtual meeting opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in program coordination in a public health, health, health regulatory, or human services related program; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. At least one year of experience must have included supervision of staff and/or program management. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in health equity, population-based chronic disease prevention; experience researching, developing and providing education and training programs for professionals on policy, systems and environmental changes.  Experience providing trainings in various formats to address adult learning styles (didactic, experiential, etc.). Familiarity with design and delivery of online, virtual training and technical assistance.  Experience assisting with the development, implementation, and assessment of public health prevention education and health promotion interventions, particularly in a tobacco prevention- or chronic disease-related field.  Experience and demonstrated skills promoting health-related programs to the general public and health care professionals.  Strong meeting facilitation skills and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to assist with development, testing, and promoting targeted health-related educational materials, publications, social media, and multi-media campaigns.  Familiarity with the evidence base for chronic disease prevention and other health-related promotion and public education interventions.  Demonstrated strong writing, editing, communication, and computer skills.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will be available.
