About the role

The Hiatt Career Center at Brandeis University is seeking a strategic, creative, and organized Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications to lead and execute marketing, communications, and social media initiatives for the office. This role is central to Hiatt’s outreach and engagement, ensuring cohesive and effective promotion of programs, services, and events to students, alumni, employers, and campus partners.

As the Marketing and Communications Lead, the Assistant Director will manage incoming requests for event promotion and educational messaging and proactively develop campaigns that support student career development, drive engagement, and highlight the center’s impact. This includes evaluating requests, building strategic communication plans, and aligning messaging with Hiatt’s broader goals and the work of our career development and employer engagement teams.

This is a fast-paced position that requires comfort with uncertainty and the ability to juggle multiple priorities. Hiatt organizes 5 - 10 major events annually, including career fairs and networking opportunities, alongside 2-3 smaller events per week, and ongoing educational and promotional campaigns.

Hiatt’s marketing platforms include paper flyers, printed banners, digital screens, social media accounts (Handshake, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, WeChat, YouTube), email campaigns, our website, and in-person marketing (e.g., tabling and promotional events). Creativity and new ideas are welcomed and encouraged.

The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications reports to the Executive Director, Hiatt Career Center.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy (40%)

  • Get to know our students and understand what motivates and engages them. Use this insight to shape Hiatt’s voice and create content that resonates.
  • Assess and execute marketing requests from team members to support events, services, and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns to increase engagement with Hiatt’s programs, services, and career events (e.g., career fairs, networking events, workshops).
  • Manage content calendars across all communication channels, including social media, email, website, Handshake, digital signage, and print materials.
  • Ensure brand consistency and alignment with university branding and accessibility standards.
  • Use data and analytics to refine messaging, segment audiences, and improve marketing effectiveness.
  • Take ownership of key marketing initiatives, reviewing past work, applying lessons learned, and continuously improving strategies.
  • Manage the marketing budget, including subscriptions and collateral purchases.

Content Creation, Social Media Management & Promotional Engagement (40%)

  • Serve as the primary content creator, producing graphics, videos, and written materials, with support from student intern(s) when available.
  • Supervise and mentor student marketing intern(s), ensuring they contribute meaningfully while gaining professional experience.
  • Develop engaging social media strategies tailored to student interests and campus culture.
  • Manage the Hiatt websites including design, creation, and maintenance using our content management system, Cascade.
  • Plan and execute in-person tabling and promotional events to drive student awareness and participation.
  • Ensure all content is relevant, compelling, and aligned with Hiatt’s goals.

Collaboration & Campus Engagement (10%)

  • Serve as a liaison between the career development and external engagement teams to ensure professional, consistent messaging across the office.
  • Manage the Hiatt Career Closet, which provides students free access to professional attire.
  • Collaborate closely with campus partners, including University Communications, Admissions, and Alumni Relations, to align messaging and marketing efforts.
  • Represent Hiatt in university-wide marketing and communications initiatives.

Professional Development (5%)

  • Participate in professional development activities related to marketing, communications, and social media to enhance knowledge and skills.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

  • Contribute to the event planning and execution of Hiatt Career Center events and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience; or Master’s degree and 1-3 years
